PSHE
At Grange Primary School, our intention is that when children leave, they will do so with the knowledge, understanding and emotions to be able to play an active, positive and successful role in today’s diverse society. We want our children to have high aspirations, a belief in themselves and realise that anything is possible if they put their mind to it. In an ever–changing world, it is important that they are aware, to an appropriate level, of different factors which will affect their world, and that they learn how to deal with these, so that they have good mental health and well-being.
Our PSHE curriculum goes hand in hand with our school values of Living, Learning and Laughing.
Living
We promote the spiritual, moral, cultural, mental and physical development of pupils, preparing them for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences for later life. We aim to prepare them to be responsible global citizens with an awareness of their place in the wider global community. Safeguarding is a key element of PSHE as pupils learn about their own identity, risks, decision-making and how to keep themselves safe.
Learning
We use the PSHE association programme of study as the basis of our provision, which is adapted to suit our local context and the needs of our pupils. Grange uses the ‘PSHE Matters’ scheme from Derbyshire to structure the learning with ‘I wonder’ questions used as drivers to ignite the children’s curiosity and interest. We promote a nurturing and positive mindset, to help our children to acquire knowledge and skills which will enable them to access the wider curriculum. Our Relationships and Sex Education enables our children to learn how to be safe, and to understand and develop healthy relationships, both now and in their future lives.
Laughing
Our children's mental health and wellbeing is a core thread that runs through all our school activities. We encourage our children to understand that mental health is something we all have, and that we should be aware of it and learn skills to look after it.

Using the Derbyshire 'PSHE Matters' scheme, we revisit previous learning and build on this knowledge throughout your child's journey at Grange. This means key themes are regularly re-visited.
