Year 5 thoroughly enjoyed learning all about the Japanese Art of Shabori Tie-dye.

We researched the Japanese tradition of dyeing and learned that they used indigo dye to stain their fabrics.

Rachel taught us how to use our sketchbooks to edit and improve ideas and to build on initial ideas. We used clips, elastic bands, knots, buttons and stones to create our resist on our fabric. We all ended up with blue hands, but it was so much fun!

To finish our session, we practiced writing our initials with Chinese paint brushes. Some of them were really big so we did some trial and error first before settling on our favourite brush.
